St. Michaels Church, Flushing, Queens
The church was built in the early 50's in a modified art Deco style. The design and construction involved reroofing the massive Dutch Gambrel roof covered in reddish Ludovici Dutch terra cotta book tiles. A beautiful copper steeple was found to be leaking. The terra tile was removed and conserved for reinstallation atop a newly insulated roof deck. The steeple was carefully repaired by expert copper craftsmen and was water proofed.
